Are you ready to go back to school? I don’t know if it happens to you but that previous night… almost no sleep at all! I keep thinking about the following morning and my lessons… But there is something that has helped me lower my anxiety during the last years… I have prepared a resource with 4 games or ice-breakers useful for those first days at school! Using those activities helps me get to know my pupils and start the year in a playful way. They really enjoy them as they have to move around or work on their inner selves to be able to answer some of the questions… I’ll explain them briefly:
- This or that? Classic Instagram or tik-tok game. The teacher shows pupils some slides and they have to move left or right according to their choice. (E.g: music or sports?)
- Stand on the line if: There’s a line (masking tape or chalk) on the floor. The teacher reads statements and students have to stand on the line if they agree. (E.g: Stand on the line if you have learnt something new during the holidays)
- Getting to know you: One-pager with interesting questions for students to complete (E.g: if you had a superpopower, which one would you choose?)
- Getting to the core: Intrapersonal activity to work on one’s personality. This one-pager requires a psychological reflection of what we think about ourselves and what or how we actually are.
All these games can be tackled in an hour or 90 minutes, but the questions included in them are profound; therefore, teachers can go deeper asking pupils for more details so as to encourage speaking and also sharing and getting to know eveyone better.
I hope you liked these ideas…. You can check this “back to school ice breakers” bundle in case you decide you need them all! 😉
